Ekiti Residents assured of Hitch-Free LG Election on Saturday

Ekiti state government has called on all stakeholders in Saturday Local Government Elections to eshew bitterness and rancour that could affect the peaceful conduct of the election .

State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr Funminiyi Afuye in a statement yesterday affirmed the commitment of the state government to a level playing ground for all candidates and political parties participating in the elections, warning that no act of violence would be entertained during and after the elections.

He called on the electorates to come out in their large numbers and cast their votes for the candidates of their choice, stressing that adequate security arrangements were being made to ensure that the election was peaceful .

He reminded the citizens that the state since the coming to power of the Dr Kayode Fayemi administration has been largely peaceful and a complete departure from what it used to be adding that nobody should constitutue himself or herself as threat to peace in the state.

Afuye stressed that security agnts have been put on red alert to deal with any trouble maker maintaining that nobody would be intimidated or attacked during and after the elections for voting for any candidate in the elections. He called on leaders of political parties to educate their followers on the need to maintain peace during the election pointing out that as enlightened people their conduct should be a model for other states to follow.

He said the state government was determined to make the council elections one of the best elections ever conducted in this country and would not tolerate any act that could abort its plan towards a hitch-free election on Saturday. He appealed to parents and guardians to disallowed their children and wards from being used to forment trouble during the election saying no trouble maker would be spared by security agents in a bid to ensure an orderly and peaceful election.
