The Speaker of State House of Assembly, Dr. Adewale Omirin, has challenged Nigerians to henceforth elect leaders who will take decisions based on the protection of their interests.

Rt. Hon. Omirin stated this while speaking with reporters in Ado on the progress made so far in the country after 51 years of nationhood and 15 years of creation of Ekiti State.

He lamented that the system in the past few years had not been fair to the Nigerian masses and called on the leaders to change for better.
The speaker, who condemned the present controversy over removal of oil subsidy, said after 51 years as a nation, should not have been subjected to the inconveniences of fuel importations or subsidy removal, arguing that this would have been avoidable if past leaders had played their roles very well.

“After 51 years, virtually all sectors, including education, health, roads, water supply and security have been in comatose. It is regrettable that the system is not working. What we need in the country today is the leadership that understands our plight and who is ready to work to put the country on track” Omirin said.

Commenting on the landmarks in Ekiti State since creation 15 years ago, the Speaker regretted that the development of the founding fathers is not yet there, the failure of which he traced to the inconsistencies in the programmed of past administrations and lack of vision to pursue programmes that would add value to the lives of Ekiti people.

He singled out Otunba Niyi Adebayo’s administration as the only one that has enduring legacies that have lasting effects on the state development.
While praising Governor Kayode Fayemi for toeing the path of progress in his development programmes, Omirin said the present crop of lawmakers in the state are determined to partner the Executive to fast-track Ekiti State development. He supported some decisions so far taken by the Governor, arguing that they are capable of moving the state forward.

The Speaker urged Ekiti people to support the administration with prayers so that all the lofty ideals included in the eight – point agenda of Fayemi’s administration could be realized.
