Bishop Charges Fayemi on Good Governance

The Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, the Most Reverend Felix Ajakaiye has charged all political parties in the state to support Governor Kayode Fayemi to deliver good governance to the people of the state.

Delivering a sermon on Sunday at a thanksgiving mass to mark Fayemi’s 47th birthday at the Government House Chapel in Ado-Ekiti, Ajakaiye commended the Governor’s leadership style since assuming office.

The service featured songs, thanksgiving, holy communion and prayers for peace and development of Ekiti State and Nigeria.

According to the bishop, Fayemi is a refined person whose candour and confidence are reflected in his style of governance urging him to work harder this year to turn around the fortunes of the state in the key sectors of economy.

The bishop also called on political parties and political office holders to allow Fayemi perform adding that there should be unity of purpose in order to ensure success of the administration and the development of the state. He said that the tag of the “Year of Delivery” of the 2012 Budget recently signed into Law by Governor Fayemi was not only apt in motivating the governor to deliver to the people but also spiritual. The cleric, however, warned the governor to be vigilant of those her described as “lazy minds who may be after his downfall and those who want him (Fayemi) to give them money without working for it”.

Ajakaye who expressed satisfaction with Fayemi’s decision to have a low-key 47th birthday anniversary, counseled Nigerians against singing empty praises of political leaders while in office only to turn around and criticize them after leaving power. While emphasizing that leadership is for true service and not for personal aggrandizement, the cleric charged Governor Fayemi to continue with his good works without minding undue attacks from disgruntled people.

“I charge the governor to go and show his worth to the people, our people appreciate good governance, Ekiti will never fail and we shall all make it in Jesus’ name”, the bishop said.

Speaking after the homily, the Governor reiterated his readiness to serve the people of the state to the best of his ability in line with the covenant he has made on assumption of office.

Fayemi said:

“God has been kind to me in many ways and God has been kind to us in Ekiti State for the relative peace we have been enjoying since God put us here.

Birthday is just another day, I see it as a time to give thanks to God, to reflect on the past and look into the future. “The sermon was all-encompassing, we shall continue to serve our people to the best of our ability. That is the pledge I have made unto God and that is the pledge I have made to the people of Ekiti State”.
