Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Chief (Mrs) Bisi Fayemi has again indicated her resolve to assist the less privileged in the society.
Mrs Bisi Fayemi, in an effort to fulfil the government promises of free health services to the people of the state had made a personal donation of seven hundred and sixty-nine thousand Naira to twelve indigent patients of the recently concluded free medical mission who needed surgical operations.
Presenting the cheques to the Chief Medical Director of the University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti where the surgeries will be carried out, the First Lady charged the beneficiaries to see the gestures as her little contribution towards their welfare and a way of providing succour to ease their health situations.
She said majority of the people who received attention during the free medical mission were women and children that needed surgical operation which they could not afford to pay for as a result of poverty and neglect.
“Some of the things that were discovered during the medical mission was that there will be surgical intervention especially for eye sight and dental cases and at the end of the mission, I made a pledge that I will support those families who needed such interventions. So I am here today to make those presentations to the affected families”. She said.
“This is my own way of saying happy birthday to my dear husband who is celebrating his birthday today and who has the welfare of the good people of this state at heart”. She added.
Mrs Fayemi appealed to the people of Ekiti to patronise the Primary Health Care facilities and government hospitals located in their areas stressing the importance of taking their health very seriously.
She charged Ekiti people to avoid self-medication and desist from patronising herbal homes but take full advantage of medical facilities government has provided for them hoping that they will continue to receive good health.
The Governor’s wife lamented the high level of poverty in the state which she said had prevented some people from accessing medical facilities from the various hospitals in the state.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Wole Olugboji appealed to the beneficiaries to appreciate government gesture by continuing to patronise government health facilities even after the surgical operation.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Bosede Ajide was full of praises to the wife of the Governor for the good gesture and prayed God to continue to be with her family.
