Goodluck Assured Youths Of Conducive Environment For Potential Development

President Goodluck Jonathan has reassured Nigerian youths of his administration’s commitment to providing enabling environment that would allow them blossom and optimize their potentials to drive the national transformation agenda.

Delivering a speech on behalf of the President at the official opening and swearing in ceremony of the 2012 Batch A Orientation Course for NYSC members posted to Ekiti State held at the Orientation Camp, Ise/Orun – Ekiti, Governor Kayode Fayemi who was represented by his Deputy, Mrs. Funmi Olayinka, said certain percentage of the proceeds from petroleum subsidy would be used to advance the course of youths empowerment.

According to Mr. President, “A key element of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment (SURE) programme  is the provision of massive employment opportunities across the country for our teeming youths”.

He charged the NYSC members to be security conscious and brace up to tackle the present security situation in the country, which according to him, can only be overcome through collective vigilance and committed efforts of all patriotic citizens.

The Chairman of NYSC Governing Board in Ekiti and Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Social Development, Hon. Folorunso Olabode noted that the NYSC Scheme has come to represent an enduring vehicle for the inculcation of positive citizenship and leadership values in the youths considering the impact the programme has made in the life of our youths since inception.

Hon. Olabode therefore urged the corps members to take the orientation course and everything it entails with all seriousness as the experience they garner during the induction course would go a long way in helping them to be role models to the young people they would be interacting with in their area of primary assignments and host communities.

Earlier in his introductory address, the Ekiti State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Baba Hammed N. T. said the NYSC Scheme came into existence as an answer to the yearnings of a nation in search of lasting solution to the problems which plunged her into a-30-month civil war and that the scheme has actually been a potent instrument in promoting national unity, reconciliation and urban/rural development.
