SUBEB Chairman Advises Teachers

The Chairman, Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board Professor Modupe Adelabu has advised teachers in the Nursery and Primary Schools in Ekiti State to teach their pupils in Yoruba language in line with the National Policy on Education.
Professor Adelabu gave the advice during her inspection tour of some of the Model Nursery and Primary Schools in Efon Local Government, Area.
The Chairman who explained that the pupils should not be disconnected from what they already knew said they should be taught in Yoruba Language especially when they were still in Primary 1 to 3 to preserve the Yoruba heritage.
She told the teachers that teaching in Yoruba should not deter them from teaching English as subject for the pupils in order to understand both languages when they get to Primary 4 and above.
Professor Adelabu who noted that teachers deployed to rural areas have been refusing postings stressed that henceforth rural teachers would be entitled to rural allowance in line with the promise made by Governor Kayode Fayemi.
The Chairman warned that any teacher that refused deployment to rural areas would lose his or her Promotion. She implored the teachers to improve on their job stating that God was very passionate about children and He would reward them accordingly.

On teacher’s workplan, the Chairman demonstrated the mode of teaching and urged the teachers to emulate such with a view to improving the standard of teaching and learning in primary schools.
Schools visited by the Chairman included SUBEB Nursery and Primary School; CAC Aladura Nursery/Primary School, and Saint Michael CAC Nursery and Primary School, Surulere and Itawure, all in Efon Local Government area of Ekiti State.
The Chairman was accompanied by Commissioner 2, Febisola Adewale, the Director Social Mobilization Mr. ‘Biodun Faokunla and the Education Secretary Pastor Ojo Olusegun.
