Women Affairs Commissioner Solicits Support for Women and Children

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Social Development and Gender Empowerment, Mrs Fola Richie-Adewusi has solicited support of Care-taker Chairmen of Local Governments in the state for the implementation of policies and programmes on women and children.

Speaking during an advocacy visit to the Care-taker Chairmen of Ekiti East and Ikole Local Councils, Mrs Richie-Adewusi appealed to the Care-taker chairmen to assist in establishing functional development centres, where women could meet to socialize and develop their potentials.

She also advocated for budgetary allocation for women training and sponsorship of holiday programmes for children, adding that the present administration led by Dr Kayode Fayemi was passionate about improving the lots of the people.

Adewusi who noted that Ekiti was blessed to have a gender sensitive Governor such as Dr. Fayemi and his wife, Erelu Bisi Fayemi who is in the fore-front of women empowerment called for prompt and proper implementation of the Child Rights Law and other policies initiated by the present administration at the grassroots.

The commissioner also stressed the need for women to support other women who are aspiring to attain political positions by campaigning for them.

In his response, the Care-taker chairman of Ekiti East Local Government Area, Hon. Rotimi Ajidara pledged his unflinching support for women in the Local Government Area saying women issues should be handled with all the seriousness it deserves.

The care-taker of Ikole Local Government Area, Hon. Niyi Aregbesola also commended the wife of the State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi for her efforts at ensuring the development of women and Children in the state.

Some of the women leaders expressed happiness at the visit of the commissioner as it afforded them the opportunity to intimate her with their challenges and proffer solutions to them.
