Don’t Set Ekiti On Fire, CNPP Warns PDP

April 12, 2012

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) in Ekiti State has warned the factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state not to set the state on fire.

The Ekiti CNPP expressed fear that the renewed battle for supremacy among the two major factions of the PDP in the state has heightened tension and is already threatening the peace of the state.

The state CNPP Chairman, Prince Tunji Ogunlola said in a statement on Thursday that the latest factional crisis in the state PDP could lead to a full-blown violence if its warring members are not called to other.

He noted that the seven and half years reign of PDP in the state was characterized by violence, assassination, arson and harassment of innocent citizens in the name of politics.

The CNPP noted that the ascension of power of Dr. Kayode Fayemi has helped restore peace to the state stressing that “Ekiti people will jealously guard their new-found peace and will not allow any irresponsible politician to jeopardize it.”

He said everything must be done to ensure peace needed to facilitate the transformation agenda of the Fayemi-led administration.

The CNPP boss lambasted the National Vice Chairman (South West) of the PDP, Mr. Segun Oni, for his role in the latest crisis rocking the party in his home state accusing him of sponsoring a splinter group to destabilize his party.

Ogunlola criticized Oni for dabbling into the politics of other states while his own local chapter of the PDP is in crisis and falling apart before his very eyes.

He advised Oni to “come back home and restore peace to Ekiti PDP rather than attacking the person of Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola who by all standards is more knowledgeable than him in both politics and governance.”

“Since Oni has always found himself in position of authority both at the state and party levels in undemocratic manner, nothing good should be expected from him and we should not forget that his government in Ekiti State was nothing but disaster,” Ogunlola said.

Ogunlola also cautioned the state PDP Chairman, Mr. Makanjuola Ogundipe against making inflammatory statements that could precipitate violence in the party.

He counselled Ogundipe to explore peaceful means to resolve the crisis in the state PDP and not to do anything that could inflame passion.

The CNPP boss lauded the ongoing projects being carried out by the Fayemi-led administration urging the governor to always pay unscheduled visits to project sites to enable contractors deliver on time.
