Ekiti Approves N767 Million Street Light Contract, Awards N227 Million Road Contract

The Ekiti State Government has approved the contract for street lighting project of Ado-Ekiti at a cost of N767, 621, 446.
The project is aimed at beautifying the state capital and replacing the dilapidated streetlight structures erected by the ousted
administration in the state.

Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr. Funminiyi Afuye who briefed reporters at the weekend on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting said the project would further complement the Urban Renewal Project of the Kayode Fayemi-led administration.
Afuye also disclosed that Council also considered and approved additional reconstruction work on Otun-Osun-Iloro Road.
According to him, the road project which is expected to gulp N227, 342, 335 would accelerate social and economic development of
communities connected by the road.

While noting that the stretch of road between Osun and Iloro had been completed, Afuye noted that the one between Osun and Otun which was yet to be completed has been awarded to Rosco Nigeria Limited.
Afuye assured the people of the state that all the ongoing projects being carried out by government would be completed on schedule to make life easier for the populace.

Also speaking at the briefing, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Eniola Ajayi, revealed that Council considered and approved the conduct of Teachers’ development Needs Assessment (TDNA) for teachers in the state.
Mrs. Ajayi explained that the policy was formulated to assist government develop and strengthen learning outcomes of students in
public schools.

She also explained that TDNA would assist in upgrading the standard of education in the state and enhance capacity building of teachers in public schools.
The commissioner explained that henceforth, there would be constant assessment of teachers through examinations to be conducted at local government levels.

The examinations, according to her, would be based on what the teachers have done at regular intervals in which those who distinguish themselves would be rewarded.
She identified states which have been implementing similar policies to include Kano, Jigawa and Kwara saying Ekiti government would stop at nothing to ensure that the state regains its pride of place in education.
