Olayinka Urges Bankers To Balance Work With Social Lives

Bankers and other stakeholders in the banking industry have been urged to go back to the conservative ethical banking practices that command trust, confidence and admiration of the people for the sector.

Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Funmi Olayinka made the call while playing host to the outgoing President and chairman of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) My Laoye Jayeola in her office in Ado-Ekiti.
While expressing her displeasure at the unethical and unprofessional practices that are being reported in the banking industry today, she called on CIBN to look into these and work at nabbing such as banking sector is meant to be a conservative industry with sustainable ethics and code of conduct that could not be faulted.

In stressing the need for bankers to balance their work and social lives by finding time to relax and be with their loved ones after the
working hours, she said finding time to wind off after the stressful work makes for more effectiveness.
According to her, “There is no need staying till late night in the office more so that latest ICT technologies have made banking
transactions less cumbersome”.

She commended the outgoing President of CIBN, Mr. Laoye Jayeola for its efforts at restoring sanity and dignity in the banking industry and for moving the institute to its impressive horizon in the last two and a half.

Earlier, the outgoing President, Mr. Laoye Jayeola who identified lack of competent personnel as one of the major challenges confronting the banking industry in Nigeria said the CIBN is working assiduously at addressing this through provision of professional and ethical trainings to bankers.

He said the CIBN has made serious contribution to the industry by providing trainings, mentorship to students studying banking related courses and as well ensuring appropriate sanction for bankers guilty of unprofessional conducts

He commended the administration of Governor Kayode Fayermi for its 8-points agenda which he described as a clear indication of the
government’s sincerity to bring all round development to Ekiti State and solicited for the government assistance in the development of the banking industry in the state.
