June 10, 2012

Ekiti State Government has assured the informal sector operators in the State of better opportunities that will fast-track the growth of their businesses.
The Board Chairman of the State Internal  Revenue Service( IRS) Mr. Isola Akingbade gave the assurance in Ado-Ekiti  during a meeting held with artisans and Trade Associations in the State.
According to the IRS Chairman, the 3-day meeting was held to recognize the relevance of the informal sector in the economic empowerment of the State and top bring them into the developmental plans of the State government and as well catch them into the tax net.
Mr. Akingbade noted  that the present administration is people – centred and would not force its decisions on its citizenry but instead, would always invite them for dialogue on ways to move the State forward.
Mr. Akingbade pointed to the reality that the State is one of the least beneficiaries of the Federal Government Allocation, hence the need for the people to make tax payment a compulsory obligation as part of their contributions towards lifting the state above the poverty level.
The Chairman who identified tax evasion as sin against God and humanity, urged the people to be part of the on-going physical development of the State through its numerous projects in line with Governor Fayemi’s 8-point agenda.
Mr. Akingbade promised the people that the challenges confronting their business and personal welfare would be tackled by the government, urging that they must be ready to come forward with their challenges in order for government to proffer solutions to their challenges.
Earlier, the stakeholders presented their common difficulties which include lack of micro-credit facilities, epileptic power supply, low Government patronage, multiple taxation and  lack of alternative business premises in replacement for the demolished shops as a result of the on-going  beautification and road projects, amongst others.
They however expressed appreciation  to the  Fayemi- administration which  they said was unique as the meeting was described as the first of its kind since the creation of the State.
The  stake holders promised to  abide by government’s decisions  as it would translate to development of the State and create hope of a brighter future.
