Special Adviser to the Governor of Ekiti State on Infrastructure, Public Utilities and ICT, Mr Kayode Jegede, Chairman, Visafone, Mr Jim Ovia and the immediate-past-Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Ernest Ndukwe are among members of the committee on a roadmap for the development and extension of broadband services in Nigeria inaugurated by President Goodluck Jonathan last Thursday.
The committee which is jointly chaired by Ovia and Ndukwe have members from diverse sectors of the Nigerian ICT sector and are saddled with the responsibility of drawing a framework for the promotion and encouragement of accelerated deployment of broadband infrastructure and services.
The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Communications Technology had in a letter dated 24th August,2012, said that Jegede’s nomination is based on his reputation and expertise within the ICT sector in Nigeria and is expected to use the expertise to benefit the country in the accelerated deployment of broadband services.
“Kindly note that you have been chosen based on your reputation, knowledge/experience and expertise within the ICT industry and we hope you will utilize all these competences in assisting the Federal Government to come up with a framework for the promotion, facilitation and encouragement of the accelerated deployment of broadband infrastructure and services”, the letter read.
The committee which is expected to submit its report within three months also has the following members: Stanley Jegede, CEO of Phase 3 Telecoms; Juliet Ehimuan, Country Manager of Google Nigeria and Gbenga Sesan, Executive Director of Paradigm Initiative Nigeria as well as other public and private sector experts while the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), National Universities Commission (NUC) are also represented on the committee.
