As part of efforts to protect the newly renovated buildings and procured furniture in public schools in Ekiti State, the state government has indicated that a bill that will guide against wilful damage of the buildings and procured furniture will soon be forwarded to the State House of Assembly for passage into law.
Governor Kayode Fayemi stated this while featuring on the maiden edition of a live interactive Radio and Television programme with
primary school pupils tagged “meet your Governor” in Ado Ekiti.
The Governor stressed the need for students to guide the schools’ property jealously to maintain a conducive learning and teaching
environment that they could benefit from.
He enumerated some of his achievements within two years to include road construction, water projects, provision of solar – powered
laptops for secondary school students, largest producer of cassava in Nigeria and provision of tap water. Answering questions on Sports, Governor Fayemi said his administration would not relent efforts at developing budding talents in sports activities, adding that the establishment of the proposed Sports Academy was in progress.
He advised parents to ensure that their children enjoy free, compulsory and qualitative education that is being provided by the state government. The Governor noted the brilliant performances of the pupils during the programme and urged the organisers to make the programme a regular one.
In her remarks, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Modupe Adelabu expressed satisfaction with the comportment and performance of the pupils, saying that she was fulfilled.
Professor Adelabu who noted the improvement in public schools in the state advised parents to enrol their children in public schools across the state in order to benefit from the free, qualitative education provided by government.
