Fayemi Presents N93.6bn 2013 Appropriation Bill To State Assembly

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on Thursday presented a budget proposal of  N 93,616,830. 001 Billion for year 2013 to the State House of Assembly.

The budget which is christened “the Budget  of Empowerment and Consolidation” has a proposed recurrent expenditure of  N46,416,141,231 representing 49.6 per cent of the total budget estimate, while capital expenditure is N47,200,688,770, representing 50.4 per cent .

Presenting the Appropriation bill, the Governor said Infrastructure will gulp 21.2% of the total budget, Education 17.2 per cent and Health sector. 10.7 per cent. Agriculture sector is to get 3. Per cent, industry 3.3 per cent; tourism gets 1.7 per cent,  while women empowerment, gender and sports will get 2.3 per cent.

In a further analysis, Fayemi stated that N9.9 Billion will be expended on road projects even as he said that three Divisional Headquarters in the state: Ikere, Ikole and Ijero will have their township roads reconstructed as well as get street lights, as part of the government’s urban renewal plan.

The budget will also focus on water projects with N2.4bilion budgeted for the rehabilitation of all major  dams, while N2.163 is budgeted for the rehabilitation of all the General Hospitals and special Comprehensive Health Centres and furnishing of same.

The budget is to be sourced from Federal Allocation, Value Added Tax, Internally Generated Revenue, External Grants, MDG conditional Grants, Bond, Special Grants and Ecological Fund among others.

While stating that the budget is targeted at putting poverty to flight at the grassroots and empower rural dwellers, Fayemi disclosed that a new Ministry would soon be put in place to address issues cutting across poverty reduction and rural development.

He commended the State Assembly for passing a bill on the establishment of Peace Corps in the State as part of measure to maintain the relative peace which the State enjoys as well as assure investors of the safety of their lives and property.

The Governor however urged the Assembly to give the Appropriation Bill a speedy passage so that the masses can get more dividends of democracy as early as possible.
