41 Vehicles Impounded For Expired Papers In Ekiti

No fewer than 41 vehicles have been impounded on the first day of the general inspection of motor vehicle particulars and driver’s licences embarked upon by a joint team of the Ekiti State Board of Internal Revenues, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Police and other relevant security agencies.

Speaking in Ado-Ekiti, the Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Isola Akingbade said the exercise was meant to encourage motorists to properly register their vehicles as well as renew their particulars.
Mr. Akingbade said the exercise was also meant to discourage illegal use of government’s number plates on private vehicles and illegal use of private vehicles for commercial purposes.

He added that the combined team of official of Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Officers, Ekiti State Traffic Management Agency (EKSTMA) and the Police have been deployed to strategic places in Ado for the exercise.
The Chairman said the exercise, which will take place simultaneously in other towns in the state, would last for at least eight weeks.

He described as economic sabotage the preference of some residents of the State to register their vehicles in other states as an economic sabotage stressing that revenue meant for the state should not be diverted in order to enable government fund its numerous projects.
The IRS Chairman noted that adequate sensitization has been carried out before the general inspection, warning that no impounded vehicle would be released until the relevant documents are perfected at the state IRS.
