L-R: Ekiti State Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Chief Ronke Okusanya; Commissioner for Women Affairs, Social Development and Gender Empowerment, Mrs. Fola Richie-Adewusi and Wife of the Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, at a prayer session held for the quick recovery of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Funmilayo Olayinka, in Ado-Ekiti.

Women across Ekiti State, on Tuesday, converged on Ado-Ekiti where a prayer session was held for the quick recovery of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Funmilayo Olayinka, who is currently on sick leave.

The Wife of the Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, convened the session, which was also attended by top female officials of the state and appointees, as well as wives of top government functionaries.

Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ekiti, Most Revd Felix Ajakaye, led other ministers of God to intercede on behalf of the deputy governor and the state in general.

In his homily, Ajakaye admonished the people of the state to stop peddling rumours about the health status of the deputy governor, but to intensify prayers for God to bring her back to her feet soon.

Like true Christians, he urged the people not to despair, warning that negative utterances were capable of worsening the health condition of any sick person.

Like every mortal, he said that the deputy governor was indisposed and only required proper medical attention, as she was currently receiving, and prayers from the people to recover quickly.

Ajakaye said, “Nobody is free from sickness and when people fall sick we should stop ascribing it to some supernatural forces or spiritual attack. Emeritus Pope Benedict recently stepped down from papacy partly due to ill-health.

“Nobody has blamed his illness on any spiritual attack and we should not do that with the illness of our deputy governor. There is nothing new under the sun. We are bound to fall sick and get well because our body is not made of stones.

“We serve a living God and we should trust that God will heal her and she will return to her office soon. Every other thing we say or do about this matter is a distraction. Let us continue to pray and I know that God will answer our prayers.”

A female minister, Dr. Lola Daramola, later led the congregation in prayer session for the deputy governor and for peace to continue to reign in the state.
