New Talents Will Be Discovered In This Year’s Governor’s Cup Competition – Ekiti FA Boss

The forthcoming Governor’s Cup Soccer Competition in Ekiti State is to promote grassroot soccer among the youths and to discover new talents from the various Local Governments in the State.
The Chairman, Ekiti State Football Association, Dr. Isaac Ayodele made the assertion during the draws of the 2012/2013 Governor’s cup
held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado- Ekiti.
Dr. Ayodele who said all the 177 wards across the state would be involved in the competition, stressed the need to revitalise grassroots soccer, noting that some of the footballers in the state and national teams are aging, thus the need to rejuvenate the state football clubs and train them for possible replacement of the aged players.

According to him, the preliminaries of the Governor’s cup will hold between May 14 and 27, 2013 at designated centres in each Local Council.

The FA Chairman urged the stakeholders to co-operate with the organisers of the competition in order to make it successful, advising that all the participating wards should be duly registered before the commencement of the competitions.

Present at the meeting were members of the State Football Association, Zonal Sports Officers and Sports Officers from the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.
