Government, Police Parley On Peaceful Election, Security In Ekiti

The peaceful conduct of the June 21 governorship election, maintenance of peace and the safety of lives and properties were the highlights of discussions between the Ekiti State government and the State Police Command.
Deputy Governor Prof Modupe Adelabu expressed government’s readiness to collaborate with the police and other relevant stakeholders to ensure a peaceful electioneering campaign and polls in the Land of Honour State.
She spoke in her Office in Ado-Ekiti, when the new Commissioner of Police, Mr. Felix Uyanna visited her at work yesterday.
Mrs. Adelabu told her guest that his deployment in Ekiti State came at a very critical period but assured that the government was deeply concerned about security of residents and ready to support every step that will ensure the sustenance of the prevalent peaceful atmosphere in the state.
Her words: “The government of Governor Kayode Fayemi loves peace, is pursuing peace, will support peace and will continue to ensure that peace reign in the state before, during and after the governorship election.”
The deputy governor, who said Ekiti people are peace-loving, accommodating and not easily provoked, urged the new police chief to instruct his officers to be civil and more vigilant now than ever before to enable them recognize any move that could jeopardize the peace being enjoyed in the state.
She specifically urged My Uyanna to ensure that politicians play the game according to the rule, pointing out that the government has always been acting within the ambits of the law.
Stating his mission in the state, Uyanna sought partnership with the government for the sustenance of peace in the state even as he pointed out that he had earlier paid a similar visit to the governor.
He described his courtesy on the deputy governor as another step to deepen the collaboration between the government and the police in the attainment of his mission in the state, which according to him, is to provide security and ensure a continual peaceful atmosphere in is fully achieved.
He disclosed that men and officers of the command are already undergoing trainings and seminars on their roles and expectations in the coming election in the state with the assurance that the Ekiti Command is well prepared to ensure peaceful conduct of the election.
The new police chief in however urged politicians and the electorate to conduct themselves peacefully and report any suspicious movement or gathering to the police on time before it is too late.
