Ministry of Youth

The Ministry is made up of the following departments: Administration and Supplies, Finance and Accounts, Youth, Sports, and Rehabilitation with the following Units: Open Registry, Internal Audit, Information Unit, and Store.

Vision:

To promote an enabling environment for a livelihood for Ekiti teeming Youth including Persons With Disability and through Sports to reduce unemployment.

Our Mission

To enhance the potentials of Ekiti Youth and Persons With Disabilities through Comprehensive programme on empowerment, and to promote restive youths by agendering – free self-employment, self-reliance, rehabilitation of Persons With Disability and encouraging Sports as a veritable means of livelihood.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports is saddled with the following responsibilities

  1. Identification of Youth in Sports.
  2. Develop Sports at the grassroot and as a veritable means of livelihood.
  3. Identify potentials in Youth, develop them and design programmes to serve as back-up.
  4. Implement empowerment programmes for the discovered potentials.
  5. Develop, train and re-train sports talents to represent the State at Local, National and International competitions.
  6. Provide opportunities for vocational training for the schooled and the unschooled.
  7. Youth toward self-employment and self reliance.
  8. Encourage active complementary roles of voluntary Youth organizations in Curbing youth restiveness in the State.

Ekiti State Female Handball Player Receives Call-up to the National Team

Ekiti State Female Handball Player , Akinola Temilade, has been
invited to the National Team camp in Lagos State.

This was made known by the General Manager, Ekiti State Sports
Council, Mr Kunle Adeyemi in Ado Ekiti who said that miss Akinola
Temilade was one of the thirty players invited by the Handball
Federation of Nigeria.

Mr Adeyemi noted that the invitation of Temilade to the national camp
was in preparation towards the International Handball Federation, IHF
Women Trophy,Zone III(Africa) scheduled to hold in Accra, Ghana.

He mentioned that Temilade has arrived the team camp at Rowe
Park,Yaba, Lagos State which is expected to run from 26th March to 9th
April 2023.

The GM also revealed that the competition which is organised by the
International Handball Federation(IHF) and the Confederation of Africa
Handball(CAHB) in collaboration with Handball Federation of Ghana has
been slated for 11th to 14th April 2023.

The State Handball Coach, Mr Kayode Ayo-Idowu reacting to the news,
expressed delight at the invitation of the player.

He also expressed optimism  in the ability of his player and assured
that she will prove her worth and work assiduously with her teammates
to bring laurels to the country and make the State proud.

EKITI STATE PLAYER BECOMES NO.1 RANKED JUNIOR TENNIS PLAYER IN AFRICA

Ekiti State Tennis Player, Oluwaseun Ogunsakin has become the number
one ranked junior tennis player in Africa.

This was revealed by the General Manager, Ekiti State Sports Council,
Mr Kunle Adeyemi at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti on
Wednesday who spoke of his delight over the performance of the player
at the just concluded Championship held in Togo.

Mr Adeyemi described the feat as a source of pride for Ekiti and
Nigeria as a whole, stressing that the rise of Oluwaseun to the summit
of tennis rankings in the continent has been as a result of
consistency and pure grit.

He also said that the top performances of the player have earned him
the opportunity to represent Africa in one of the most prestigious
Tennis Grand Slam of the year, which is the 14 & under event at
Wimbledon Junior Championships slated for July, 2023.

He noted that the player has now been confirmed as the boys 14 & under
Africa Number 1 and also the 16 & Under West/Central Africa number 1
ranked player after his top display in Togo where he won the warm-up
tournament of the AJC and the just concluded African Junior Tennis
Championship as well.

The GM lauded the effort of the State Tennis Coach, Mr Wumi Ogunsakin
for his commitment towards moulding the talents in the State into
world class stars and also for the sacrifices in preparing the kids
for sporting events.

Adeyemi appreciated the Governor Oyebanji led administration for
efforts aimed at the continued development of Sports in Ekiti.

He also used the opportunity to appeal to well-to-do individuals and
corporate organizations to support efforts at developing Sports in the
State, stressing the importance of using Sporting activities to curb
youth restiveness and making a career out of Sports among other
benefit accruable from the sector.

REDEDICATE YOURSELVES TO DUTIES– AROWOSOLA CHARGES WORKERS

Workers in the Civil Service have been charged to re-dedicate
themselves in the discharge of their duties to the Ekiti State
Government.

The newly deployed Permanent Secretary, Mr Bamidele Arowosola gave the
charge at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development during a
meeting and prayer session with the staff of the ministry to usher him
into the office on his assumption of duties.

Mr Arowosola who is a lawyer, urged civil servants to make punctuality
their watchword as he reminded them of the civil service rules and
regulations expected of them, adding that workers must abide by the
ethics and codes of conduct of the service.

While calling on them to shun all acts of indiscipline such as
gossiping, rumor mongering, late coming and truancy among others, the
Permanent Secretary solicited the cooperation of the staff to move the
ministry and the state forward.

Arowosola, whose deployment to the ministry was the second in seven
months, urged the civil servants to be prayerful, saying that prayers
to Almighty God is key to societal transformation and the development
of mankind.

Responding on behalf of the staff of the ministry, the Director of
Administration and Supply, Mr Adeniji Abayomi assured the Permanent
Secretary of cooperation, loyalty and dedication to duty from the
staff of the ministry.
