General Information

Ekiti East Local Government was created under the Local Government Edict of 1979. This took place as a result of the creation of Ondo – state which has it’s headquarter at Ibadan under the administration of the late Head of State Gen. Murtala Ramat Muhammed. At its creation, the old Gbonyin District Council which has it’s headquarter at Aisegba-Ekiti and part of the then Ekiti North Division were carved to from Ekiti east Local Government with it’s headquarter located at Omuo-Ekiti.

However, with the creation of more Local Government in 1996 as a result of the creation of Ekiti state by late Gen. Sanni Abacha, Gbonyin Local Government has been carved out of Ekiti East Local Government.

To see that the Local Government becomes first among the equals and to see that healthy living and literacy is enhanced.

Mission
To upgrade the governance of the Local Government to a democratic standard, and to give every citizen of Ekiti East Local Government the propitious empowerment and better living.

The villages, farm settlements and homesteads according to the population compendium vol. I of 1991 are Aka camp, Eremeji, Temidire Igbo Omodun camp, Onigerige camp, Oladimeji camp, Igbo Agba camp, Adojutelegan camp, Alimi camp, Giwa camp, Kola surulere camp, Jubrilu camp, Paul camp, kahinde camp and Oka camp and a host of others.

OMUO-EKITI: Comprises of the following quarters, Ilisa, Iworo, Iludofin Ijero, Edugbe, Ekurugbe, Araromi, Ahan, Ayegbule, Oruju Odo-odo and Oya.

ILASI EKITI: Comprise of the following quarters, iremo Ibajore, Isolo, Iregun, Iro Igbale and camps.

ISINBODE EKITI: Comprises of the following quarters: Uro, Imikan, Uremo Eku-Are, Eku-Igbando and the camps.

ARAROMI OKE EKITI: Comprises of the following quarters: Agbara Omugbo, Ajeregun, Okete-Oje, Oyi/Elegbeta, Oke-Egan, Alasaba, Aleju Iyese, Odo-Oyi/Apole Abija farm settlement

EDA-ILE EKITI: Comprises of the following camps: Ojo camp, Abolokefa camp, Kajola camp, Dangolojo camp, Federal Camp, D. O. camp, Okesegun camp, Alake camp, Ilepa camp and Ayo camp.

IKUN OBA EKITI: Comprises of following: Imeji, Oransege, Igbosanyin Igbagun, Oke-Igbo, Igbo orunmo, Oju Ere, and odo-ogba.

Population & Geographical Landscape:
Ekiti east Local Government has an estimated population of about 140,000 based on the population census of 2006.

Ekiti East Local Government was located geographically within the tropics, and positioned near the equator. The Local Government was bounded in the North by Kogi State, South by Gbonyin Local Government, East by Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State and in the west by Ikole Local Government.

Ekiti East Local Government has an estimated land area of about 1,000sq km. The land was characterized by low land with few hills and mountains. The vegetation is made-up of decidons trees (hard and soft) grasses scrubs, fibres and herbs.

Homogeneity: 
The people of Ekiti East Local Government are mainly Ekiti’s of the Yoruba race. They inter-relate with one another under a congenial atmosphere. They are homogenous in almost every facet of life. Including language, politics, culture, marriage, social and religious.

The people speak the same Ekiti dialect of the Yoruba language. There arte however few variations in the dialect noticeable only in Omuooke, Ahan/Ayegunle.

The people of the Local government are predominantly Christians, while some are Muslim. There are some idol worshippers as well. Each of the religion operates without any interference.

Some of the notable denominations are: Christ Apostolic Church, the Apostolic Church, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Anglican Church, Communion of Nigeria, Celestial Church, Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Methodist Church, the Redeemed Evangelical Mission, Catholic Church, Wesley Church etc.

The Islamic denominations are predominantly the A.U.D.
