Infrastructure Development
“Establishing optimum communities that will improve citizens' lives and attract investment; by 2014, all parts of Ekiti to be accessible by major roads; making water dams in Ekiti functional to increase water supply by 80%; public private partnership for independent power projects”.
The development of road, water, electricity and allied infrastructure in Ekiti State is a priority of the Dr. Kayode Fayemi-Led administration. This is in order to create a conducive environment for the growth of the economy, and most especially for small businesses to thrive. T To ameliorate the deplorable state of roads in the state, this administrtion has within the last 100 days, embarked on the completion of the underlisted on-going road projects viz:
- Erinjiyan – Ilawe road
- Ayede-Gede – Omu road
- Osun – Iloro road.
In the same vein, and in view of the distressed conditions of the roads in the State Capital metropolis, the State Government has embarked on the repair of the roads to, among other things, enhance the beauty of the State Capital and allow for the free flow of vehicular traffic. The roads have been grouped into two, namely major roads and secondary roads. The secondary roads (11in no) are being handled by the Ekiti Kete Roads Maintenance Agency. The major roads are:
- Omolayo – University Teaching Hospital road
- Ijigbo - Baptist college (Ilawe road)
- Old Garage – Okesa round-about road
- Irona round-about – Old Governor's Office road
- Fajuyi – Trade Fair road
The eleven secondary street roads are:
- GRA roads
- Oke-Iyinmi – Oke-Ila road
- Onigari (Zenith) – Ilawe road
- Kure GRA
- Ile-Abiye - Onigari Junction
- Oke-Ila – Housing
- Housing – Olora
- Basiri – Nova – adebayo
- Ekute – Mobil
- Ajilosun – moferere Agric
- Bank road
As further efforts to curtail the menace of hoodlums and robbers on Ekiti State roads, government has embarked on, and completed the vegetation control of the road verges and median on all the highways within the State. With the completion, motorists will have clearer view of the roads and avenues for criminals to hibernate will be drastically reduced.
Also in line with this administration's commitment, the pace of work on the following projects sites have been accelerated and nearing completion:
- Oluyemi Kayode Satdium
- Secretariat Complex (2 buildings)
- Deputy Governor's Office
This administration is also committed to the provision of potable water across the state. This is in a bid to improve the health conditions of the citizenry and stimulate rapid industrialization.
Some of the steps taken to improve on the water infrastructure in the state include the following:
Transfer of the management of our dams and mini schemes to the management of the state water corporation;
- Improving the output of existing water works;
- Setting in motion the process for the complete rehabilitation of abandoned water works in the state;
- Award of contracts for the supply and installation of High Lift Pumps for 8 eight communities;
- Commenced extension of water pipelines within Ado-Ekiti
- Construction of concrete reservoir in 2 communities
There are also plans to increase distribution density through the reactivation of dormant pipelines, laying of new pipes, improving pumping capability and building of more water treatment plants in the state. The Dr. Kayode Fayemi-led administration has also taken steps to improve electricity supply in the state by procuring 100 units of transformers. These are currently being installed across the state. Towns and villages not currently connected to the national grid have also been provided with electricity including the Irele and Otunja communities in Ikole LGA.
