INTRODUCTION:

Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism State Secretariat History: The Ministry was created by Dr. Kayode Fayemi Administration. The component Departments had existed at different times under the following Ministries since the creation of Ekiti State:

i. Bureau of Information, Culture, Sports and Social Welfare; ii. Ministry of Youth, Sports aInformation and Culture;

iii. Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs; and iv. Ministry of Commerce and Industries.

Brief Description of The Ministry:

The Ministry presently comprises of two departments and an Agency namely:

i. Finance and Administration Department ii. Department of Arts and Culture; and iii. Tourism Board. The Ministry has staff strength of seventy three (73) officers. Functions of The Departments: a. Finance and Administration: i. It coordinates the activities of the Ministry;

ii. It performs administrative, financial and personnel functions for the Ministry

b. Department of Arts and Culture This department is:-

i. To promote cultural, moral and ethical values;

ii. To preserve our intrinsic cultural heritage on film, video and audio tapes, slides and in written form;

iii. To present Ekiti Cultural values through the vehicle of dance, music and drama;

iv. To promote our folkloric and poetic genres through oral and literary presentation;

v. To identify and celebrate our ancestral heroes and heroines with the view to igniting the spirit of patriotism particularly among the youths;

vi. To promote and preserve indigenous work of arts peculiar to Ekiti State;

vii. To organize Exhibition of the various works of Arts.

viii. To acquire works of Arts towards establishment of gallery of Arts and Museum;

ix. To organize workshop geared towards improving the skills of artists and artisans;

x. To generate awareness in Arts and craft production and attract foreign patronage.

c. Tourism Board

i. Co-ordination of Tourism activities in Ekiti State;

ii. Development and maintenance of tourism sites towards achieving economic growth;

iii. Regulation of hospitality service to meet desired standards; iv. Promotion of tourism potentials of the State to attract investors;

v. Organizing and coordinating tourism exposition;

vi. Seeking sponsorship opportunities and interaction with National and International Tourism Agencies. Our Vision and Mission for Arts And Cultural Development In Ekiti State.
