The Ekiti State House of Assembly has passed a resolution condemning the action of the State Command of the Nigeria Police that resulted in
the loss of an innocent life during a peaceful rally in Ado Ekiti on Sunday.

The resolution was consequence upon a motion moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Chuchill Adedipe under Matter of Public
Importance at its plenary session.

The Assembly also demanded the immediate redeployment of the O.C Mopol from the state, the identification and prosecution of the officer that pulled the trigger, the trial of the State Commissioner of Police for murder, the release of those detained and for the Inspector General of Police to personally monitor the activities of the State Command during and after the 2014 gubernatorial election.

Moving the motion which was seconded by Hon. Oriniowo Olubunmi, Hon. Adedipe said that the unwholesome action was aimed at harassing
innocent members of the All Progressive Congress (APC), stressing that all the culprits should be sanctioned.

Hon. Adedipe lamented the death of the victim who he identified as Mr. Akinola Taiwo from Odo-Owa in Ijero Local Government Area of the
state.

Members of the Assembly in their various submissions described the conduct of the Police as uncivilized and a clear indication that they were acting a script of some people aimed at truncating the 2014 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State.

The legislators expressed shock that the Police which is constitutionally mandated to protect lives and property of the people, turned itself to destroyer of the same lives they are paid to save from harm, stressing that the role of the Police in the event on Sunday totally contradict their code of conduct.

They wondered if the obnoxious action of the Police was not a confirmation of the declaration of the Vice President, Mr. Namadi Sambo that the Ekiti 2014 election is a war, noting that the action was probably a dress-rehearsal of the tactics to be used for the election.

Speaking after the motion was unanimously approved by the lawmakers, the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale
Omirin noted that the Police cannot justify the killing as well as the harassment of the State Governor during the peaceful protest.

Urging people in the state to go about their lawful business and continue to maintain the peace, Dr. Omirin assured that government was
on top of the situation, emphasizing that the power of the guns wielded by the police cannot suppress the power of the people.
