Government of Ekiti State Celebrates Children’s Day In a Special Way

Government of Ekiti State had a low key celebration of the 2020 Children’s Day in a special radio programme on Ekiti FM 91.5 with some selected public and private school pupils.

Delivering the goodwill message of the Governor, His Excellency, Dr John Kayode Fayemi, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Prof Francisca Aladejana explained that the government was celebrating the children in spite of the Covid 19 pandemic lockdown to demonstrate his passion for the education, care and other rights of the children.

Aladejana reiterated that the Fayemi administration was fully committed to delivering free qualitative education to all children of school age in the state.

She stressed the commitment of the administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi towards the provision of a secure and conducive teaching and learning environment in all schools in the state.

The SUBEB boss recalled that the United Nations set aside May 27th of every year to celebrate children and create awareness about the rights of the child.

She noted that government at all levels in Nigeria should pay attention to the welfare of children as available statistics indicate that children form about 40.9 percent of the nation’s population. This is especially so that these children are the future of the nation.

In her remarks, the Commissioner, Human Resources Management, Dr (Mrs) Olufunke Fajobi advised children to take full advantage of the lockdown occasioned by the CoronaVirus pandemic to study at home and observe government directives for curtailing the spread of the virus by regularly washing their hands, wearing of face mask, maintaining social distancing and ensuring strict personal hygiene.

Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner, Project Management, Dr Kayode Adeoye disclosed that ongoing renovation and construction works in public primary schools in the state would positively change the outlook of schools in the state and provide the learners with conducive environment for learning.

About 10 primary school pupils drawn from both public and private schools who featured regularly on the daily School-on-Air Programme were honoured during programme.

The programme featured special appreciation messages by two pupils to the Governor, rendition of special songs by the children and presentation of prizes.

In conclusion, the Permanent Secretary, Mr M.O. Fabamise appreciated the Executive Governor and the Hon Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology Evang Foluso Daramola for the strong support for the activities of the board.
