Muslims in Ekiti state have expressed their appreciation to the Governor, Dr. Ayodele Fayose for fulfilling his promises and ensuring that a Muslim faithful stands as the running mate to the Governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in the state.
The group which was led by the Chief Imam of South West, Edo and Delta, Alhaji Mohammadu Jamiu Kewulere emerged in large numbers today at Ado Ekiti and referred to the Governor as the true example of a promise keeper who has interests of people at heart regardless of their religious affiliation.
Recall that the group which mandated that the incoming Deputy Governor be a Muslim saw their demands met when Hon. Deji Ogunsakin, a muslim secured the position.
Speaking at the gathering, the Governor of Ekiti state, Dr. Ayodele Fayose, while noting that religion plays a prominent role in politics, described the faithfuls as a force to reckon with in the state.
“This gathering is unique due to the fact one cannot separate religion from politics in this country. Religion is celebrated than any issue in Nigeria and this has informed my decision of ensuring that one of you becomes the Deputy Governor of this state”.
The Governor also noted that Deji Ogunsakin who is energetic, strong vibrant and reliable remains the right individual for the post of Ekiti’s Deputy Governor.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Ekiti state Prof Kolapo Olusola assured that his alliance with his running mate would yield honesty, responsiveness and total adherence to the rules guiding the continuity agenda.
“Governor Fayose’s administration has been of extreme benefit to us all and it will be our duty to do same in our administration once elected into office “. He said.
Also the Chief Imam who spoke on behalf of the Muslims described the Governor as a great leader who has deemed it fit to recognise the Muslim community. He revealed that the community will support Olusola and Ogunsakin in their bid to take over the mantle of governance in the state.
Responding, the immediate past Chairman of Ado Ekiti local government Hon Deji Ogunsakin assured that the responsibility given to him would be put to good use and he would work collectively with his boss to effectively move the state forward.
