The Ekiti State Governor Chief Ayodele Fayose has distributed cheques worth millions of naira to over 900 schools in the state.
Gov Fayose who distributed the cheques at a meeting with all the heads of Teachers comprising all secondary schools principals and primary schools Head Masters across the state disclosed that the money would serve as running grants to the schools.
The governor said that the grants was part of his promises to the schools as compensation for outstanding performances recorded in national examinations in 2016/2017 respectively, noting that to whom much is given much is expected.
“I remember in one of my meetings with the teachers few months ago that i promised to compensate them and the schools for their great contributions to education development in the state”
The governor further expressed deep appreciation to the teachers who he described as miracle workers and hardworking professionals who have made the state proud in the committee of states in Nigeria. He promised to continue to make the welfare of the workers a priority.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology in Ekiti state, Mr Jide Egunjobi noted that the Fayose led administration has invested so much in education in the areas of training and retraining of staff, procurement of furniture to schools, bursary and scholarship to students, adequate monitoring of schools, students and teachers for effectiveness and efficient service delivery, saying that the efforts have brought positive results to education sector in the state.
Some of the benefiting schools appreciated the good works of the governor especially in the area of Education, they all promised to give their best in the discharge of their legitimate duties to impact knowledge.
