Governor Kayode Fayemi has approved with immediate effect two hundred million naira as cars and housing loan for teachers in Ekiti State.
The Governor stated this in Ado Ekiti while signing the Executive order on compulsory and free education in the state primary and secondary level.
He noted that the government gesture was to show love to teachers who were critical stakeholders in the development of Ekiti.
He said the initiative would commence on the 15th of next month and urged the teachers to apply since it would be done in phases.
Dr Fayemi also promised to pay the arrears of salaries owed the teachers by the immediate past government with a view to encourage them to do more.
He said, necessary sanctions await any school principal and head teachers extorting students through illegal fees in Ekiti schools henceforth.
The governor also made this known in Ado Ekiti while signing the executive order on free and compulsory education in Ekiti schools.
He observed that this action was as a result of allegations leveled against some principals and head teachers who after government pronouncement of free education were still extorting students under voluntary donations.
The Governor said the executive order would prevent any of such illegality in schools, eliminate school drop out and as well encourage children enrollment.
He urged parents to report any head of schools who asked their children for money to the ministry of education for necessary action to be taken.
Earlier the permanent secretary ministry of Education Princess Adekunbi Obaisi noted that the executive order would go a long way at strengthening the education policy in the state.
Also the State Chairman of Nigeria union of Teachers Mr Samuel Olugbesan said the govt initiative marked the beginning of a new dawn in the education sector.
