With a charge to be creative in the application of their educational skills and the knowledge they acquired during the compulsory one-year National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) in Ekiti State, Governor Kayode Fayemi yesterday bade the 2013 Batch “A” corps members bye.
The governor told the cheerful 2235 youth corps members at the Playing Ground of Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti that the application of knowledge remained the best way for the youths to become employers of labour and not to go after non-existent white collar jobs.
Governor Fayemi spoke through his deputy, Prof Modupe Adelabu at the passing-out ceremony of the 2013 Batch “A” corps members, who observed the NYSC programme in the Land of Honour State.
He reminded them that the road to success despite being rough and tough could be attained through hard work, determination and discipline.
His words: “It is an aberration to search for non-existent job when you have been equipped to be creative and innovative. There are many areas of economy interest available to you.”
He cautioned them against to jettisoning the various skills they acquired in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme but gainfully apply them especially now that Nigeria is in dire need of productive individuals who will contribute to an accelerated socio-economic growth of the nation.
Lauding the vision of the founding fathers of the NYSC scheme and the various achievements of the programme since inception, Fayemi noted
that scheme remained an enduring legacy that has been mobilising graduates for nation building and national unity.
He therefore charged the 2, 235 corps members to remain worthy ambassadors of the scheme and the nation wherever they go.
Five of the corps members got State Honours Award for excelling in Community Development Services (CDS); five others received the Chairman’s Award and another six others got commendation certificates.
However, twelve of them who were found wanting are to be disciplined appropriately.
