EKSG Promises To Sustain Grants To Communities

Ekiti State Government has said it will sustain its grants-in-aid to communities across the state for developmental projects.

The State Commissioner for Rural Development and Community Empowerment, Chief Folorunso Olabode who stated this in Ado-Ekiti, disclosed that about N604 million has been disbursed so far to about 180 towns and villages Community Development Associations to complete various abandoned and uncompleted projects ranging from Palaces, town Halls, Market Stalls, School Buildings, Extension of Electricity,
Culverts, Bridges among others.

According to him, the Grants-in-aid initiative of the Fayemi led administration is meant to combat poverty and reduce hardship.
He added that, so far, abandoned and uncompleted projects in the state have become a thing of the post while rural-urban drift has drastically reduced.
Stressing that Rural Dwellers have been empowered through creation of jobs, Chief Olabode noted that, there was drastic reduction in capital flight with local purchase of materials needed for the various projects in each locality.

While calling on the beneficiaries of the second phase of the State Government’s Grants-in-aid to communities on self-help projects to strictly monitor projects within their communities, the Commissioner said this was necessary in order to ensure the success of the initiative.

He urged them to always give feed back to the relevant Government agencies in charge of the projects to guarantee proper supervision, proper utilization of fund and to ensure jobs are done to specification.
The Commissioner called on the people of the state to always support Governor Kayode Fayemi, adding that the Governor was ready to change the face of the state for better and add value to the lives of its citizenry.
He assured that the Grants-in-aid would touch all communities in the state.
