Teachers in Ekiti State under the aegis of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) have predicted the victory of the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi in the coming governorship election in the State.

The teachers who in two different letters of appreciation to the Governor thanked him for giving them a new lease of life, adding that Fayemi’s performance in the State is unparallel and will earn him victory on June 21.

In a letter dated 2nd May 2014 and co-signed by the State Chairman of ASUSS, Mr Sola Adigun and his Secretary, Mr Omolayo Oso, the teachers commended Fayemi for the recent promotion of senior Principals who had reached the bar on grade level 16 but had the bar lifted by the Governor so that principals can also retire on grade level 17 as applicable in the Civil Service.

The Union while acknowledging Governor Fayemi as a true progressive and welfare-oriented governor said “never in the history of Ekiti as a State has any principal reached this enviable grade level”.

“The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (Nigeria) Ekiti State chapter welcomes with much appreciation the recent promotion of senior principals who had been stagnated on grade level 16 for long to grade level 17. Your Excellency, you have done it again. You have scored another first as usual. We do not expect less performance at your second coming. Our union wishes you all the best in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections”, the letter reads.

The NUT in its letter said the donation of an 18 seater Toyota Hiace bus to the Union is a further demonstration of the Governor’s commitment to improve the welfare of teachers in the State.

The Chairman of NUT in the State, Mr Kayode Akosile alongside his Secretary, Ola Idris signed the letter thanking Fayemi for fulfilling the promises made to the Union.

The Union expressed optimism that other promises made by Fayemi would begin to manifest soon even as he walks the talk.

It is recalled that Governor Fayemi had on Monday approved the 27.5% teachers pecuniary allowance in fulfilment of the promise made to them last year while negotiating the allowance.

Meanwhile the University of Lagos Alumni Association has backed Governor Fayemi for victory at the forthcoming poll; saying that this is to enable him continue his “service to humanity in Ekiti State”.

In a letter signed by the National President of the Association, Dr Sonny Kuku, the Association said its members are not surprised by Fayemi’s laudable achievements in the State because of his “unique
ability in management would always endear him to stand out as Administrator par Excellence’.

It reads: “I write to congratulate you on behalf of the National Executive Committee and entire members of the University of Lagos Alumni Association for your passion and commitment towards ensuring rapid development in Ekiti State where you are presently serving your first term as Governor without blemish. Our own JKF, the entire millions of Akokites both at home and diaspora wishes you total victory at the poll come June 2014 to enhance your continued service to humanity in Ekiti State.”
