The Association of Nigerian University Vice Chancellors has described the transformations made by the Dr Kayode Fayemi administration to education in Ekiti State as a model for functional education.
The Vice Chancellors who are in the State to attend a conference for the academics at the Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, stated this during a courtesy visit on the Governor.
The Chairman of the Association and Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Joseph Ajienka, said the strides of the present government has improved the standard of education in the State; making it more qualitative and functional.
Prof Ajienka who noted that the nation cannot grow unless adequate attention is paid to the education sector stressed the need for the nation’s education system to be properly funded.
He said this is the only way to wage war against poverty, ignorance and underdevelopment.
The Proprietor of the host institution, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) also lauded Fayemi’s effort in transforming the State’s education sector; saying that he is keenly interested in Fayemi’s return as governor because of the Governor’s passion for the development of education.
The legal icon who stressed that education is “a visible weapon to fight ignorance and poverty” asserted that Ekiti still remains in the forefront of the nation’s education system and the establishment of ABUAD is to continue to pursue the vision of the State as the fountain
of knowledge.
In his remarks, Governor Fayemi described education as the greatest resources available to the State hence the decision of his government to exploit the sector for what he called a Knowledge-based economy.
The Governor who commended Chief Babalola for establishing ABUAD in the State said the gesture is in response to the yearnings of the people by taking education to another level.
