Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has urged Christians to use the period of the Lenten season to pray for divine intervention in the security challenges facing the country. Fayemi in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, said the country needs prayers at this critical period of its history to overcome the prevailing insecurity in some parts of the country.

The governor also urged the people of the state irrespective of their political and religious affiliations to live together in unity which he noted was needed to stimulate the overall development of the state. Fayemi declared the readiness of his administration to ensure security of lives and property in the state to make it attractive to local and foreign investment.

He equally called on the people of the state to pray for the success of his administration in delivering dividends of democracy through its eight-point agenda. The governor said the Lenten period offers another opportunity for sober reflection and to emulate the virtues of sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ who abstained for forty days and forty nights shortly before his crucifixion. Describing Lent as an important religious landmark in the Christian calendar, Fayemi noted that the period evokes the sacrifice of Christ which gave salvation to mankind.
