Fayemi Swears In New Judge, Promises More Support For Judiciary

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, on Monday swore in Mr. Abiodun Emmanuel Adesodun, as a new Judge of the State High Court with a pledge to give more support to the Judiciary to ensure dispensation of justice.
Fayemi who performed the ceremony at the Executive Council Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Ado-Ekiti said the new judge deserved the appointment having functioned in the top hierarchy of the administration of the State Judiciary for upward of five years.

The governor said the appointment and swearing-in of the new judge was in line with the powers conferred on him by Section 271 (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria acting on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC).

Fayemi said, “I must, however, point out that the tasks ahead are daunting. This is because your appointment is coming at a time of
increased awareness on the part of the citizenry of their rights and the corresponding eagerness to fight same in the courts of the land.

“Thus you must be doubly prepared to contend with the myriad of cases that must naturally flow from the newly found consciousness in our society.”

Describing the office of a judge as one which carries enormous responsibilities, Fayemi noted that it is incumbent on the occupier of
that office to sustain “the immemorial nobility of the institution and the enormous responsibility to dispense justice without fear or
favour.”

Fayemi promised to ensure that the Judiciary is is adequately supported in the face of lean resources to empower it to discharge the
onerous responsibility of administering justice.

He disclosed the readiness of his administration to put up a befitting complex as the headquarters of the State Judiciary and ensure the
take-off of Customary Court of Appeal.

While calling on the State Judicial Service Commission to set in motion the machinery for the appointment of the judicial and
administrative personnel for that court.

He also called on the commission to initiate the process to fill up the existing vacancies on the State High Court Bench.
