Fayemi Meets Community Leaders On Development

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, addressing community leaders from across the State, during a Town Hall meeting, at his country home, in Isan-Ekiti... on Saturday.

In furtherance of his commitment to participatory governance, Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi. At the weekend met with leaders from all the communities in the 16 local government areas of the State.

The meeting which held at the Isan Ekiti country home of the Governor brought together leaders and representatives of various communities regardless of political affiliation. The meeting was aimed at getting feedback from the people on areas of grassroots development.

At the meeting which was also attended by members of the state Executive councils and members of the state and federal legislatures, the community leaders tabled their requests ranging from the provision of more access roads, potable water, fortification of health centres and security .

Many of the participants lauded the idea of the forum, describing it as unprecedented in the history of the state, but admitted that it would promote development within the communities as well as accelerate the pace of development in the state.
Responding , Governor Fayemi  who lauded the frankness of that characterised the presentations by the communities, assured that the various requests and observations would be taken into consideration in the 2013 budget which will soon be presented to the State House of Assembly.

Fayemi stated that the bulk of the 2013 budget will be expended on water provision and renovation of the General Hospitals in the State, among others.

On security, the Governor said efforts are on for the establishment of Peace Corps to manage security challenges in the State.
He however  commended the sincerity and openness of the community leaders; saying that government would appreciate contributions from town unions on ways to improve projects executed in their localities.  He assured that the forum would be held more regularly, in the bid to ensure adequate participation bu=y citizens in the running of government affairs.
