The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi has approved the payment of 182 Million Naira for the settlement of four months core subjects and rural allowances to qualified teachers in Public Primary and Secondary Schools across the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Foluso Daramola made this known on Friday at a media briefing in his office in Ado Ekiti.
According to him, a total number of 6,840 Teachers from both Primary and Secondary Schools would benefit from the specialized allowances. Mr Foluso Daramola explained that core subjects allowance is paid to Public Secondary school teachers of Physics, Biology, Chemistry, English Language and Mathematics while rural allowance is paid to teachers who are working in hard-to-staff remote communities. The payment of the special allowances would cover four months – January to April, 2019. The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology disclosed that 89,940,024.57 naira are for core subjects for 2,777 teachers and the sum of #91,740,024.57 go to 3,063 teachers who are working in the rural communities. Mr Foluso Daramola called on the Teachers to reciprocate the gesture and cooperate with the JKF 2 agenda and programmes by putting in their best for the development of Education in Ekiti State. It will be recalled that Dr. Kayode Fayemi had released 146 million to 6,203 teachers for the same allowances for October to December in 2018.
Adequate welfare and remuneration of teachers are part of the administration’s strategy to motivate and improve teacher output in the public school system.
