Governor Fayemi Approves Commencement Of JKF Youth Cup

In his determination to develop and promote young athletes in Ekiti
State, the Governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi has approved the
commencement of the Ekiti State Under-15 Male and Female Football
Competition tagged “John Kayode Fayemi Youth Cup’.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon Michael Awopetu made this known at a press conference organized by the Ekiti State Football Association in Ado Ekiti.

Awopetu who said the aim of the competition is to discover the hiding
talents and promote young footballers in the nooks and crannies of the
state, expatiated that the competition is a youth developmental
programme through sports to take away the youth off the street.

He stated that the competition will commence on Friday 22nd November,
2019 at five centers in the State which include Oluyemi Kayode Stadium
Ado, Omuo Ore Comprehensive High School, Odo Oro Primary School,
Ikole, Elo High School, Ayetoro and Ijero Township Stadium.

The Commissioner said that Zenith Bank has agreed to collaborate with
the organizers by ensuring that a Zenith Bank Children Account (ZECA)
is opened for each of the participants to make the participants, who
are still very young to be financially disciplined.

He explained that government will continue to create an enabling
environment for the corporate bodies to partner with the government to
ensure that youths are gainfully engaged.

No fewer than 400 boys, 200 girls and 96 officials drawn from the 16 Local Government Areas of the state would participate in the competition.

The Chairman of the Ekiti State Football Association, Mr. Bayo
Olalanlege assured that the talented youths discovered in the
competition will not be adequately developed to make career in football. He said the matches will be coming up on Fridays, Saturdays and
Sundays so that it would not disrupt the academic activities of the
participants.
