Following the confirmation of a new COVID-19 positive case in Ekiti State, the Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has formally enlisted all road transport unions in the state to enforce the ban on interstate travel in order to prevent further importation of Coronavirus into the state.
He gave the charge at a parley between members of the Ekiti State COVID-19 Taskforce and the leadership of the various transport unions in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday.
The Chief of Staff, Hon Biodun Omoleye, who represented the Governor at the meeting, expressed government’s concern at the frequent violation of the ban on interstate travel, in view of the latest confirmed positive case, a military officer’s wife, who traveled from Katsina State to Ekiti State, in spite of the lockdown.
The union leaders agreed that the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic was a collective one and promised to help put a stop to the illegal routes and travels once they get the Governor’s marching orders.
According to them, they have knowledge of all illegal routes being used to access the state and would help shut them down working with security agencies.
In attendance at the parley were the leadership of NURTW, RTEAN, PLAN, NACT, OKADA and TRICYCLE Riders Association while the DG OTSD and Coordinator of the Taskforce, Prof. Bolaji Aluko, Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Wale Fapounda, Special Adviser, Communications and Strategy Mrs Sola Salako Ajulo represented the government
