Ekiti State Government has set up a 15-person steering Committee headed by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Michael Awopetu to organize the year 2020 State Youth Summit scheduled to hold before the end of the year.
While speaking at the Committee’s inaugural meeting held in Ado-Ekiti, Awopetu recalled that the idea of a youth summit in Ekiti dated back to the first term of Dr Kayode Fayemi as Governor of the state, describing the development as a testimony to the commitment of the Fayemi-led administration to youth development.
The Commissioner highlighted the objectives of the project to include; breaking barriers to meaningful youth engagement in civil and political affairs, encouraging participation, inclusiveness and equitable opportunities for youths, as well as enhancing opportunities for constructive involvement and meaningful participation of Ekiti youths in community and social development in political processes and governance at all levels.
He added that the summit is also expected to create opportunities for productive employment and encourage entrepreneurship for sustainable socio-economic development in the State.
In her remarks, the Ekiti State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Mary Chikezie described the Summit as a preparatory platform for the teeming youths in the State to thrive in their various endeavours.
Members of the Steering Committee include; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communications and Strategy, Mrs Sola Salako-Ajulo; Special Adviser, Development Partnerships, Mrs Margret Fagboyo; Permanent Secretary, Youth and Sports Development, Barr. Ayodeji Ajiboye; Representative of the Office of Wife of the Governor; Personal Assistant to the Governor, Mr Adedayo Ajibaye; Senior Special Assistant on Party Affairs, Mr Garba Arogundade; and Special Assistant on Youth and Student Affairs, Mr Ademiloye Moses.
Others are; Special Assistant on Sports Development, Mr Kolawole Owoseni; Office of the Deputy Chief of staff to the Governor, Mr Soyombo; Director, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Adesoye Adedayo; Director of Planning, Research and Strategy, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Kunle Adeyemi; Chairman National Youth Council of Nigeria Ekiti State Chapter ( NYCN); and Convener, Ekiti Youth Agenda, Miss Abimbola Aladejare.
