Executive Director, The New Generation Girls and Women Development Initiative
This week, we are pleased to feature ‘Abimbola Aladejare-Salako’ who hails from Efon Alaaye as our Oni Uyì, Oni Èye of the week.
Abimbola is a Nigerian Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) survivor activist and anti-FGM campaigner. She is the Founder and Executive Director of the New Generation Girls and Women Development Initiative, an NGO promoting the socioeconomic needs of girls, women and youths. She is also the African Union Saleema Youth Victorious Ambassador for West Africa.
As an #EndFGM Ambassador for The Girl Generation (TGG) in the UK between 2016 and 2019, Abimbola facilitated the training of civil society organizations in the Gambia, Kenya, Senegal, Mali, and Burkina Faso. She has been a member of the National Technical Committee on FGM in Nigeria since 2014. She is the Convener of Ekiti Youth Agenda and ‘Vote Not Fight – Election No Be War’ campaign in Ekiti State.
Abimbola is also a member of Ekiti State SDG Board and SDG 17 Youth Advocate; Abimbola is the author of the book titled, A Different lady
She is proud to be born in Ekiti and resides in Ekiti. Ekiti has indeed produced a life of honour in her. From Ekiti, global doors have been opened to her. Ekiti means being unique to her. Even after marriage to an Eko (Lagos indigene), she could not part ways with her Ekiti identity.Ekiti gbe mi!
