Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has presented cheques of one hundred and ninety million, eight hundred and sixty thousand , nine hundred and twenty- three naira (N190, 860, 923) as compensation to people whose properties would be demolished to pave way for the dualisation of the New Garage- Ojumose-Okeyinmi- Baptist Church Road and Atikankan-Igbehn road, in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
Also a sum of eighty three million, six hundred and seventy nine thousand, six hundred and twenty seven naira has been earmarked as compensation to people whose houses and properties were demolished in the on-going Urban Renewal project. Payment of this compensation would commence soon.
Presenting the cheques to beneficiaries in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, the State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi said the payment of the compensation was to conclude all technical arrangements for the dualisation of the two major roads whose construction would last for ten months.
Dr. Fayemi who restated the commitment of his administration to “effecting a major turn around in infrastructural development of “Ekiti State said the government was aware that the on-going construction and rehabilitation projects in the state capital may cause temporary discomfort for the people.
“ As you may have noticed, infrastructural development of the State with a particular attention to aggressive construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads is core in this regards. It is in keeping to this vision that, my administration has concluded all technical arrangements for the dualisation of the Old garage-Ojumose- Atikankan-Igbehin-First Baptist Church roads. The completion period is 10 months for each section. These roads are to build on the on-going rehabilitation of intra-city roads in the state capital which contracts this administration has awarded,” he said.
While appealing to affected people to see the efforts of government as a collective aspiration aimed at achieving lasting comfort as well as decent environment, the Governor said the payment of the compensation was to “ameliorate the pains of our people arising from these projects”.
Fayemi promised that his administration would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the vision of making all major roads in Ekiti State motorable by 2014; saying that when this vision is actualised, Ekiti would have the best road networks in the South-west.
He added that aside the ongoing construction of 80km of roads spread in 5km across the sixteen local government areas, uther road projects such as Efon-Allaye-Ipole Iloro road, Ado-Afao road, Oye – Ayede-Ikun-Otun road and Aramoko-Ijero-Usi-Ido road which construction has got to Ayegunle would soon be completed.
The Governor who disclosed that the Ekiti State Government would dualise Ado Akure road up to its boundary in Ikere Ekiti stressed that concerted efforts are on-going on Ijigbo-Baptist seconadry school-Ilawe road, Ojumose –Fajuyi-Basiri-Police Headquarters road, Fajuyi-Teaching Hospital road and Old Garage-Ikere road and soon they would be completed.
Fayemi however commended the roles of Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe in ensuring that the people understand what the government was doing and complying with the quit notice given them.
The beneficiaries have two weeks after getting their compensation to vacate their properties to give way for the immediate commencement of the construction work.
One of the beneficiaries of the compensation who is the Bafon of Ado Ekiti, Chief Olu Ogunremi commended the Governor for paying the compensation despite that their properties were yet to be demolished; saying that this underscore the fact that the Governor has the welfare of the people at heart.
At the event were the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs Funmilayo Olayinka, the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe and his queen, Eyesorun Bosede; the Secreatry to the State Government, Alhaji Ganiyu Owolabi; the Chief of Staff, Mr Yemi Adaramodu.the Commissioner for Works, Mr Sola Adebayo,his counterpart in the Infromation and Civic Orientation, Mr Funminiyi Afuyeand the Special Adviser on Land Matters, Elder Remi Olorunleke.
