The Ekiti State Government will officially flag-off the Youth Commercial Agriculture Development (YCAD) programme, Growth Enhancement Scheme (GES) and 2012 Farming Season on Monday April 30, 2012.
Modernizing Agriculture is the No. 3 Agenda of the Kayode Fayemi led administration with the goal of training and employing 20, 000 Ekiti Youths in mechanised agriculture by 2014.
These initiatives is intended to turn the farm Settlements in the state into Centres of Excellence in Agriculture and to ensure all-round production of cash crops in the state.
More, importantly is the plan to employ 1,500 youths under this initiative.
The move is aimed at reducing unemployment in the state and ensure that agriculture contributes 50 per cent of the state’s Internally-Generated Revenue (IGR).
The YCAD scheme will be launched by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, with Dr Kayode Fayemi, Ekiti State Governor as the Chief Host and Dr. Daouda Toure, UN system Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative as Guest of Honour . The event will take place at the Orin Farm Settlement, Ido-Osi L.G.A.
The farm centres are located in Osin Ekiti, Eporo Ekiti, Erio Ekiti, Odo – Oro Ekiti, and Ipao/Oke Ako, while the farm settlements are located in Orin Ekiti and Ayede Ekiti.
