Traditional rulers, Community and Religious leaders have been called upon to sensitize their people on the need to join hands with Government at all levels in the crusade against polio.
The State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi made the call during the 4th edition of the sensitization of stakeholders on polio eradication in
Ado Ekiti.
The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government Dr. Ganiyu Owolabi said that the call was imperative for
the State to maintain its present status of a polio-free state.
Dr. Fayemi who re-affirmed his administration’s commitment to reduce all antigens such as measles and chicken pox to the barest minimum
said that Government would also focus on malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, maternal and child mortality equally urged religious
organisations to complement Government efforts on health education.
According to him, the State Government will continually provide routine and supplemented immunization which is the most effective
way to protect children from polio.
He commended UNICEF, WHO, Rotary International and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency for their support and pledged
the readiness of Government to sustain the state’s present status as a polio-free state.
The Commissioner for Health, Prof Olusola Fasubaa enjoined nursing mothers across the State to patronize government health institutions
and avail themselves of the opportunity of the Fayemi administration’s free health programme as all primary health centres and General
hospitals in the State are now well stocked with drugs.
