Teachers’ Competency Test Is Not To Retrench – SUBEB Chairman

The Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, Professor Modupe Adelabu stated that teacher’s competency test was not to retrench,or downgrade any teacher.

Professor Adelabu stated this when the Caretaker Committee of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Ekiti State Chapter paid her a courtesy visit in her office in Ado.

The Chairman who described teaching as a noble profession assured teachers of her support.

Professor Adelabu urged members of the Caretaker Committee to use their experience to conduct a free and fair State NUT Executive election to move the Union forward. She stressed that the welfare of teachers and all other needs enumerated by the committee would be addressed.

The Chairman told them that teachers would continue to receive training on modern methods of teaching in order to improve their capabilities.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Comrade Oluwole Awolusi had commended the State Government for regular payment of teachers’ salaries, promotion of teachers, renovation of dilapidated schools, regular in-service training for teachers.

Comrade Awolusi called for improvement in the welfare of teachers such as car and housing loans for primary school teachers, running grant, and duty post allowance.
