Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr Joseph Daudu (SAN) have traced the current state of insecurity and under-development of Nigeria to the inefficiency of her laws.
The Governor who spoke in Ado Ekiti while receiving the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr Joseph Daudu, said insecurity persists because the laws have been rendered inactive, giving room for impunity to take the place of the law.
Dr. Fayemi said if the law was allowed to take its course, the country would not only be rid of social injustice but also give room for industrial development in an atmosphere of peace; adding that as a product of the rule, he believed that the law should not be undermined.
The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr Joseph Daudu said the failure to implement the law by those who are to do so was responsible for the escalation of insecurity, saying when the law is silenced and prevented from taking its course, it gives encourages defaulters to flout the law.
Daudu added that this was not unconnected to the “faulty electoral process” that brought the “wrong” people to power; stressing that this amounts to “a coup against the law and people of Nigeria”.
Speaking on the election of Dr. Fayemi as Governor of Ekiti State, the NBA President described Fayemi as a choice that would benefit the State and added that Nigerians must make choices that would deepen the nation’s democracy.
Daudu commended Fayemi on the transformation strides of his administration which he said would turn the State to a tourist and industrial destination.
