People living in Ado metropolis have been warned against dumping of human waste and refuse in the newly constructed and the existing drains. The State Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) gave the warning while inspecting the erosion control project at Oke-Oniyo in Ado – Ekiti.
The Head of the Team and General Manager of the Agency, Mr. Seyi Adegbola said the State Government had embarked on the projects to make life easier for the people living around the places.
Mr. Adegbola urged the Landlords and owners of business premises in the state to provide toilet facilities and other conveniences in their buildings to enhance cleanliness and proper sanitation.
The General Manager who frowned at the way residents of the area litter the drain with refuse and human waste said that the State Government would sanction Landlords whose houses lack toilet facilities, while anyone found dumping refuse in drains would be prosecuted according to the environmental laws of the State.
He appealed to the people to desist from dumping waste in the drains to forestall flooding and environmental pollution, adding that about eight houses around the area which do not have toilet facilities have been served with abatement notices by Environment Officers.
