Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has warned contractors handling the various roads in the State against delivering shoddy jobs to the state government.
The Governor gave the warning while inspecting on-going reconstruction work on Ado – Ikere dualized road; saying that the road which was constructed by the Ayo Fayose-led administration in 2005 collapsed barely a year after it was constructed because it was not done according to specification.
Describing the road as a “tragedy of shoddy jobs”, the Governor said the shoddy job done by the contractor who handled the road then has cost the state government another resources which could have been expended on another road project.
He expressed assurance that the on-going reconstruction of the road would make it durable as the new contractor handling the road now has to excavate 1.5 metre deep and refill it with heavy stone base to prevent it from collapsing under Heavy Good Vehicles that ply the road.
The Governor said the state government had decided not to abandon the road because it belongs to the federal government but has chosen to embark on the reconstruction work so as to make it accessible to commuters who now abandoned the deplorable lane for the other lane.
Fayemi however urged the people to exercise patience as the reconstruction would also be extended up to Ado metropolis and would be completed in the next Eight months.
The inspection tour also took the Governor to Igbara-Odo – Ikere road and Old Garage – First Baptist Church- Ojumose road.
