July 17, 2012

Ekiti State Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Barrister Paul Omotoso has warned  residents of Ado Ekiti especially those living around Ureje waterworks against dumping refuse and human waste on waterways; saying that Government will sanction people that engage in such acts.

The Commissioner gave the warning while inspecting the on-going de-silting of blocked drains in Ado metropolis; adding that blocked drains could expose the environment to flooding.
Omotoso who charged residents to always clear blocked drains around their buildings to allow easy flow of water, said the on-going de-silting of drains in the capital city is part of the preventive measures of the present administration aimed at averting flooding in Ado and its environs.

He added that free flow of water in the drains will provide good and suitable environment for life and properties.
Drains along Mathew-Odo Ado Road, Irona- Elekute Road, Water Corporation area,
Oke-Ila Housing Estate road, and Ilawe road among others are currently being de-silt to ensure a flood-free society.

The Commissioner commended the contractors handling the project for the job done so far but urged them to brace up as the raining season will soon be at its peak.
