Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has stressed the need for government and internet service providers to take Information Communication Technology (ICT) to all the communities in the country to enable the people have unfettered access to the internet.
Dr. Fayemi stated this at the commissioning of Federal Government information technology centres in Ido and Omuo Ekiti. The Governor who spoke through the Director General of the State ICT, Dr. Toyin Oloniteru, said the state government will put in place appropriate legislations to ensure that knowledge acquired through the ICT will be channelled into good use and  not cyber crime.
He called on the federal government to complete the rural ICT centres in Ado, Iyin, Ijero, and  Aramoko as well as those in  Efon Alaye, Aiyekire and Emure local government areas of the state.

Earlier in his remarks, the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Professor Cleopas Angaye said that the establishment of rural ICT centres is to bridge the digital divide existing between the urban and rural areas in the country. Professor Angage said that it is also a way of contributing to the realisation of the vision 20:2020 of the Federal Government.
The Director General said every centre is well equipped and has the potentials to ensure Nigeria makes positive  contribution to IT development in the International market, promotion of self reliance and export of IT products and services.
He therefore appealed to the local governments’ authorities to take ownership of the centres and develop an acceptable sustainability strategy for the project.
Also in their separate contributions at the occasion, the Permanent Secretary, office of the Secretary to the Federal Government, Prince Femi Olayisade, the Chairman Ido/Osi local government,  Mr Gbenga Agbeyo and his Ekiti East Counterpart, Mr. Rotimi Ajidara described the projects as worthwhile and a major  gain for  the people at the grassroots.
