Ekiti Govt Approves N1 Billion For MDG Water Projects

In fulfillment of the promise of the Dr. Kayode Fayemi-led administration to provide potable water for the people of Ekiti State, the State Government has approved contracts worth One Billion, One hundred and Eleven Million, Four hundred and Ninety-eight thousand, Five hundred and Sixty three Naira, Thirty Seven Kobo (N1,11,498,563.37) for 2011 MDG/CGS water projects in the 16 local government areas of the State.

The State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Hon. Funminiyi Afuye made this known in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday at the weekly post Exco briefing; saying that the contract sum is to be expended on the supply of 110 mm UPVC pipes , water fetching points,extension of water pipelines; construction of 500 cubic metre reservoirs and the supply and installation of generators.

The Commissioner added that the project is to be handled by different companies to ensure their early take-off and completion.

It would be recalled that the State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi had on assumption of office in 2010 promised at least 80% of water supply to all parts of the State by 2014 and concerted efforts have already been put in place with the installation of ductile pipes from Ureje waterworks to Mary Hill reservoir aimed at supplying water to various parts of Ado Ekiti, a 2500KVA Generator was procured for Ero Dam to boost water supply to other parts of the State while work is on-going at Egbe Dam to ensure its optimal performance.

Afuye also disclosed that as part of moves to make Ekiti State a tourism destination, the State Government has approved the establishment of a Film village situated at Ipole Iloro, Ikogosi and Okemesi tourism corridors of the State.
