Akinyemi Named DG, Bureau Of Strategic Communications

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has approved the appointment of Mr. Kayode Akinyemi as the Director General of the newly created Bureau of Strategic Communications in the state.

The Bureau of Strategic Communications was created to conceptualize and coordinate the communications initiatives of the government and promote the 8-point agenda of the government.

Akinyemi, whose appointments takes immediate effect, is an accomplished journalist, broadcaster and Advertising/Public Relations Practitioner with immense experience in marketing communication.

He was until his appointment, the official representative of British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for Nigeria, having earlier served as Head, Corporate Communications of Skye Bank Plc, where he was in charge of the bank’s internal and external communications, as well as developing and executing the bank’s advertising and promotional programmes.

Born on March 1, 1966, in Afao- Ekiti, Ifelodun/Irepodun LGA, Ekiti State, Akinyemi, a graduate of Mass Communication, started his career as a Reporter with the Radio Nigeria 2 in 1988. He veered into Public Relations/advertising  with Rock Forte Advertising in 1989 as a Senior Media Executive where he performed several duties including media relations, media planning and buying, media monitoring, appropriation and media research.

He moved to Vantage Advertising in 1994 and served in different capacities in media, client service and advertising production. It was from there he went to Centrespread Advertising in 1998 as Manager, Client Service where he was responsible for brand management, relationship marketing, among others

He later moved to Vanguard Media Limited in 1999 as Deputy Head of Advertisement Department.  From there, he moved to Optimum Exposures Limited in 2001, the leading outdoor advertising firm in Nigeria and member of Troyka Group as Head of Marketing/Customer Services.

In October 2011, he resigned as the Head of Corporate Communications at Skye Bank Plc, where he was responsible for the design, implementation and evaluation of appropriate programmes and projects aimed at projecting the image of the bank nationwide.
